Très rare, le nom semble originaire du Limousin (87). On le rencontre aussi sous la forme Cicile (86). Le nom est à rapprocher de Sicilia, rencontré pour sa part dans le Sud-Ouest. On peut y voir celui qui est originaire de Sicile, mais il semble plus sage d'en faire une variante du prénom féminin Cécile.
